In this article we are look at the Harken Element block range.
Whats the product all about?
Harken have a huge range of blocks for different applications, so why are these different?
In simple terms the element block is perfect for applications where high working loads are required but extreme low friction is not a critical factor
We use the Harken Element block for a number of our custom rigging solutions.
Why is the Element block so great?
Its Wallet Friendly!
One of Harken’s main objectives when designing the element block was to be price conscious yet produce a quality product. The Element block is aimed at cruising boats and cruiser/racers.
The Element block uses a simple journal bearing for minimal maintenance and much fewer moving parts. The side plates are forged hardcoat-anodized aluminium which sets the block apart from competitors at this price point, many of which use plastic side plates which degrade in UV.
The Element block also features slightly larger sheeve to accommodate larger line diameters used on cruising boats.
Wide Range of uses
The element range has a number of variations – single, fiddle, footblock and cam-cleat block varieties allows you to build a large range of systems.
- Mainsheet systems (Hand Load or Winch)
- Spinnaker Sheet Block
- Cascade Systems
- Mast Base Blocks
Essentially any applications where ultra low friction is not a priority.
Although ball bearing blocks provide the lowest friction solution, they often have lower working load limits when compared to a plain bearing block of similar size.
A 45mm Element block (single swivel) has the same working load as a 57mm Black Magic Block!
